L'INTERNATIONAL DES FEUX LOTO-QUEBEC 2009: MELROSE PYROTECHNICS (U.S.A.)

Photo Sharing and File Hosting at Badongo.com

MELROSE PYROTECHNICS (U.S.A.),
who incidentally doesn't seem to have a proper working website...
just knocked montreal off its feet,
with a soundtrack that was a sure winner,
& fireworks that set the sky ablazed!!
"REEL LOVE",
or real love,
is an hommage to hollywood's love stories,
& god knows we love those.
"funny girl", "grease", "moulin rouge", "bodyguard"
& so many others
just set the mood right.
that's what i like:
cohesion in the musical selection.
even though the styles may have been different,
there was a common thread,
making the experience even more enjoyable.
as for the fireworks,
well...
they do say it's always bigger in america...
DAMN RIGHT!!
if it wasn't the biggest i've ever seen,
it was still something to behold.
a half-hour program that just flew by,
it was over before i could ever get bored.
i'm sold on this one!!
they just didn't make me smile,
they wooed me,
they moved me.
:)~

Wasn't there a sort of narration or intro, too? How was that in your opinion?

@ anonymous:
there was an intro & an outro, & though it seemed a bit old-fashioned, it did go well with the theme; & the lady who spoke in both french & english, had a lovely accent...
:D~
i loved the show & nothing could tarnish it!!
beware!!

There's a good reason Melrose's website is down. I don't want to post it here - but if you google "Ocracoke July 4" you'll understand why.

I'm not a fan of narration at all - the first part was OK but the second piece before the finale was redundant. Like with the Pyrotechnico finale last year, it was so bright and loud at the end my video camera gave up with a "buffer overflow" error!

i do know about THAT which you'referring to, but shutting their website down is not the responsible thing to do, in my opinion...
but it doesn't change anything to their performance last weekend.
the rest was unfortunate & will be dealt with accordingly.

as for your camera, poor thing, it's been working hard lately!!

I asked them about the website and was told it was to prevent anything being used by the media and quoted out of context - though any tech savvy person knows they can use archive.org in such cases :) It might not be responsible, but understandable under the circumstances. The pyro world is very tight-knit and I know the people in charge at Melrose take it all very personally. That, and Mike Cartolano (head of Melrose and their show's designer) was in hospital last week with a serious infection that led to a tracheotomy. He's doing OK now but it's been hard for all of them.

I'll have to see if Sony have a firmware update for intense fireworks ;)

@ PaulM:
do you know how he contracted this infection? viral, stress... tracheos suck, big time, but if it keeps him alive, so be it. but when i said it'd be the responsible thing to do, i would have expected the company to take position, extend their condoleances for the deceased, & support to the injured. i do not take side about their responsability in the matter as this is a matter of expertise i don't have. but as you said, they are a small community, & it happened in a small community too. one could relate to the other, & it would have been a nice gesture, no?!? as politically incorrect as i can be myself [too oftenly], i expect, in the real world, things to be done in a certain way.
unfortunate, this whole affair, just unfortunate.

since you mentionned your camera,
& that i badly need a new one (can't you tell already?!???), what are you using. might gear me in the right direction...
love your pics!!

Mike doesn't know how he contracted the infection - he said he was playing golf and someone said it's better not to swallow the balls.

As for the website ... damned if you do, damned if you don't. It's not any easy choice either way.

I don't take the photos on my site (well, not the recent ones). I'll ask my photographers what cameras they use. For the videos, I use a sony HDR85 hard disc camera. Not the highest resolution, not the lowest but at a price point that made sense for me as the "semi-pro" gear was an order of magnitude or so more. This would buy 3 sensors (for better colour resolution) but I couldn't justify the price. As an professional engineer in real life, I understand about making the right compromises.

Glad you like the photos on the site though - I believe I have the largest collection of quality fireworks shots anywhere on the web.

i'm more a pic then a video kinda guy myself. so, info would be appreciated. & yes, i do believe you've got the biggest collection. me, i'm just an amateur taking pic from his balcony, since there's no way i could sleep through all of that noise. & you know what they say: if you can't fight them, join them!!! that's what i'm doing. only, i'd like to do it somewhat better. hence, my inquiring as to a good camera, but at a decent price. i'm not a pro, & cannot deduce that from my income taxes...
